  Each year the Old Town Commercial Association prints thousands of Old Town Business Directories that are on display at all of our downtown businesses, member businesses, the Greater Lansing Convention & Visitors Bureau and all of our major events. 2012 members of the Old Town Commercial Association will be included in the 2013 Business Directory.

Revving up for their 18th year, the Lansing JazzFest will once again fill the streets of Old Town with live, soulful entertainment during their two-day music festival. This year’s festival will take place Friday, August 3, from 4:30 p.m. - 12:30 a.m., and Saturday, August 4, from 1 p.m. - 12:30 a.m. on the corner of Turner Street and Grand River Ave.

In recent years, community gardens have been sprouting up across America in hopes of building healthier communities. From caring locals to national activists, many have realized the tremendous benefits that these green projects can bring to their neighborhoods. Three years ago, the Residents of Old Town (ROOT) Group decided to build a community garden here in Old Town.

On June 2, the streets of Old Town radiated with chatter, sunshine, and acoustic music as residents strolled the streets to witness artwork in the making at this year’s Chalk of the Town. Guests of all ages observed every day sidewalks transform into astonishingly beautiful works of art. 25 participants chalked up Old Town storefronts this year, displaying a wide range of artistic ability from young children to professional artists.  Near the end of the event, three artists were awarded for their especially wonderful artwork. Old Town’s fourth annual Scrapfest was a huge success! Fifteen creative sculptures were on display during this year’s Festival of the Moon and Sun for all to see. Five local judges looked over each sculpture, judging on the piece’s concept, craftsmanship, unique interpretation of the materials and artistry. Here are this year’s winners:             1st: We Art Junk for the second year in a row with their piece titled “Knights of the Sky.”

We are hosting our second annual Turner Street Outdoor Theater on Friday evenings in July, with the exception of July 13 (so everyone can enjoy Common Ground!). This free, family-friendly event will project movies in City Lot 56/Cesar Chavez plaza at dusk. Check out the Feature Film line-up below:
