Old Town’s Newest Treats!

Two newbies just moved to the neighborhood, but we think they’ll fit right in! Old Town has the pleasure of welcoming two new unique businesses to our community this month, each bringing just what we like to have in Old Town, beauty and something sweet! Whipped and Craig Mitchell Smith Gallery will surely add to our diverse community.

Whipped will be Old Town’s newest bakery, bringing with them specialty cakes, cupcakes, brownies, cinnamon rolls and more! Not to mention, their infamous frosted sugar cookies. After two years at the previous location, Owner Randy Umfleet moved Whipped to Old Town in the space previously held by Portable Feast on Turner St., in the interest of location.

“The bakery had honestly survived via special orders for the most part,” said Umfleet. “Our walk-in traffic was minimal due to being located in a shopping plaza that really didn’t have other retail shops to draw customers,”

Since having moved to Lansing 15 years ago, Umfleet has admired the revitalization of Old Town and always thought it would be a great location to have a business.

“I believe Whipped will see its best days ahead,” said Umfleet.

Although a grand opening date is yet to be determined, Whipped’s doors are currently open to the public with two large dessert cases full of individual delights for sale and seating for up to 18 people.

Umfleet isn’t the only business owner coming to Old Town because of our thriving community, glass artistCraig Mitchell Smith has brought his famous name and gallery back to his roots in Lansing and more specifically to Old Town. Craig Mitchell Smith is famous for his kiln-formed glass approach and techniques that he himself invented. He is most known for his large scale glass and metal sculptures inspired by nature, organic forms, color and storytelling that have been displayed in gardens around the world. Smith is currently working on an elaborate butterfly piece that will be placed in the butterfly house in Epcot Theme Park at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, FL. Old Town was lucky enough to get a sneak peak at this work during the first annual Old Town Chocolate Walk! Old Town is happy to have such an amazing artist added to our beautiful community, and our own celebrity!
