Dickens Village and the Scrooge Scramble 5K arrive in Old Town Lansing


LANSING, Mich. – This holiday season Old Town will transform its streets and businesses into a festive scene for the fourth annual Scrooge Scramble and the seventh annual Dickens Village. On Dec.7, the Scrooge Scramble will kick off at 10 a.m. followed by free holiday activities at Dickens Village from noon until 5 p.m.

Events begin at 10 a.m. with the Scrooge Scramble, a 5K run/walk through the heart of Old Town and Lansing River Trail.  Over 300 runners will dash through the trail wearing holiday knitted hats. All proceeds of the race will go toward Dickens Village and the Old Town Commercial Association for the further revitalization of Old Town.

Dickens Village will execute numerous holiday themed festivities hosted by Old Town businesses. Attendees will witness an ice sculpture demonstration, ride in a horse drawn carriage, join the Great American Fierce Beard Organization for a mustache craft and competition and enjoy live music throughout the streets of Old Town.

Other events include: face painting, cookie decorating, ornament making, festive children’s hairdos, holiday films and live performance re-enactments with actors from Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol in the Turner Mini Park. New this year is the Artisan Market hosted at the Old Town Marquee. The Artisan Market will open at 10 a.m. and provide a showcase of the merchandise available in Old Town and work created by local artists. Additionally, there will be live music and children’s activities provided by early childhood learning professionals.
