Business Spotlight: Mayberry Homes

A warm, friendly neighborhood where homes have spacious front porches and the neighbors all know one another — that’s what Karen and Robert Schroeder were looking for when they began the hunt for their perfect

home in Lansing. But the husband-and-wife duo soon realized such neighborhoods were hard to come by, and so when they opened Mayberry Homes in 2002, they aimed to create some.

“We recognized that certain items we were looking for weren’t available in the Lansing market,” co-founder Karen Schroeder said. “We felt that there was a need for a new product and a new design in housing in Lansing.”
Mayberry Homes, an award-winning, Lansing-based home builder, started off with just two neighborhoods in the Lansing area and throughout the years has expanded and developed homes in East Lansing, Okemos, DeWitt, Holt, Mason, Grand Ledge, Webberville, Williamston, Midland and Traverse City.  With houses starting around $150,000, Mayberry Homes services first-time home buyers, growing families seeking more space and empty nesters searching for luxurious low-maintenance lifestyles.
As a local home building organization, Karen Schroeder said Mayberry Homes’ employees pride themselves on being good neighbors who constantly are giving back to their community. The company has participated in ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” built three St. Jude’s dream homes and takes part in a variety of other charity events in the area.
“ We’ve done a number of things that keeps us involved in the communities that we’re building houses in,” she said. “In our hearts we believe in our communities, and we want to give back.”
