August 2 – Oktoberfest Planning Committee Meeting

OTCA is gearing up for Oktoberfest 2012 to be held Friday, October 5 (6-11pm) and Saturday, October 6 (2-11pm) at the corner of Turner St. and Grand River Ave. in Old Town, Lansing. The Planning Committee will meet at the OTCA office at 1232 Turner St. on Thursday, August 2 from 5:30pm – 6:30pm, to discuss all event details including entertainment, promotion, food and drink, and much more. August 3 – Wake Up Old Town!

Wake Up Old Town! is a free and informal networking opportunity for professionals from all over the city to come together and share ideas and opportunities to help their businesses and Old Town thrive.  The event is held on the first Friday of each month at rotating locations in and around Old Town. August 3 & 4 – Lansing Jazzfest

Entering its 17th year, the Lansing JazzFest is a two-day free music festival that will bring national, regional, and local acts to an audience of 15,000+ people from across Michigan and nearby states. Jazz music will fill the streets of Old Town on Friday, August 3 from 4:30pm-12:30am and Saturday, August 4 from 1pm-12:30am. To accompany the world-class jazz musicians, vendors will be lining the streets offering ethnic food, beverages, art, clothing and crafts. Nearby galleries and boutiques will be open during festival hours. Music work-shops and seminars will also be available for festival-goers. Prepare yourself because this will definitely be a weekend of music, food and fun you won’t soon forget.

 

August 3 thru Sept. 24 – 40 Festival Artworks

In honor of festival season, MICA presents a show of its festival posters throughout history, featuring a variety of fine art. MICA is located at 1210 Turner St., Lansing and open Friday-Sunday 12pm-5pm and via neighbors Arts Council of Greater Lansing and Gallery 1212, Tuesday & Thursday 9am-5pm. August 5 – Old Town Farmers Market

The Old Town Farmers’ Market is Sunday, August 5 from 10am-3pm on the corner of Grand River Ave. and Turner St. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come down to Lansing’s historic, creative district on the first Sunday of every month to enjoy fresh, vibrant, homegrown and handmade products from some of Michigan’s most dedicated farmers.

 

August 5 – First Sunday Gallery Walk

Art galleries in the Lansing area host opening receptions for new art exhibits on the first Sunday of each month. Check out what’s new, exciting, and enticing in the many Old Town galleries. For more information visit www.iloveoldtown.org.

 

Every Thursday – Lunch on the River

Join Epicenter of Worship and Lansing Teen Challenge for Lunch on the River every Thursday from noon – 1p.m. in the parking lot of Epicenter of Worship: 102 W. Grand River in Old Town on the corner of Washington St. and Grand River. These two organizations have joined together to create this wonderful community event that draws together people from all walks of life to eat, listen to local musicians, socialize and enjoy the beautiful Old Town landscape.

Food will include: grilled chicken, salad, bean soup, hamburgers and hot dogs. Drinks will include: lemonade, tea and water.

 

Every First and Third Friday – Gallery 1212 Cork & Canvas

 Join Gallery 1212 for “Cork & Canvas” on the first and third Friday of each month.

Bring a date, spouse or friend & your favorite beverate (that’s where the cork comes in) and we provide everything else (canvas – and all supplies). Under the step-by-step instruction of one of our instructors, you will be guided through the painting process creating your very own piece of art! $25 – per person.
