Wake Up Old Town! is a free and informal networking opportunity for professionals from all over the city to come together and share ideas and opportunities to help their businesses and Old Town thrive. The event is June 1 at 9am at Favorites Cafe, 1216 Turner St., Old Town Lansing.
Chalk of the Town… June 2
Come down during Be a Tourist in Your Own Town for Old Town’s own, Chalk of the Town! Roam the streets of Old Town and experience true art in the streets. Beginning at 10 a.m. artists will take to the streets creating masterpieces on their assigned piece of sidewalk, using only chalk. The creations will be completed by 2 p.m. when judging will commence. Visitors to this event will be allowed to vote for the People’s Choice winner all day and winners will be announced at 3 p.m. Families are also welcome to participate in the kid’s sidewalk art area.
First Sunday Gallery Walk… June 3
May 6 from noon-5pm Art galleries in the Lansing area will host opening receptions for new art exhibits. Check out what’s new and exciting in the many Old Town art galleries.
Old Town Farmers’ Market Farmers Market… June 3
The Old Town Farmers’ Market is Sunday, June 3 from 10am-3pm on the corner of Grand River Ave. and Turner St. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come down to Lansing’s historic, creative district on the first Sunday of every month to enjoy fresh, vibrant, homegrown and handmade products from some of Michigan’s most dedicated farmers.
Poets Corner… June 3
The Lansing Poetry Club presents its first annual Poets Corner at Turner Mini Park in Old Town during the First Sunday Gallery Walk, 1-2:30 p.m. The event is “plein air” (open mike). Bring one poem to read or just listen while strolling by.
Old Town Scrapfest… June 9, 22 & 23
You’ve heard the saying… one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Well you’ve never seen anything like this. 9,000 lbs of metal. 2 weeks. 17 teams. 1 scrapyard. Yeah, it’s intense.
On June 9, 17 teams will gather at Friedland Scrapyard to collect 500 lbs of metal each from 1- 2 p.m. They have two weeks to construct their masterpieces which will be displayed and auctioned off at Festival of the Moon, Friday, June 22 from 6 p.m.-11 p.m. and Festival of the Sun, Saturday, June 23 from 2 p.m.-11 p.m in City Lot 56. Festival of the Moon… June 22
Celebrate the shortest night of the year with the biggest party of the year. A full selection of Bell’s Beer and amazing performers set the perfect scene to enjoy this summer celebration. Rock the World Adventure Race… June 30
Rock the World Adventure Race is a 5k trail obstacle race and live music festival at 10am on Saturday, June 30 and Sunday, July 1 in Fitzgerald Park: 133 Fitzgerald Park Dr., Grand Ledge. You will have a chance to tackle a dozen of the world’s most distinguished landmarks on a course laced with dirt, mud, grass and water. These landmarks will do everything they can to slow you down on your way to a thrilling victory.
