Be A Tourist In Your Own Town!

Be a Tourist in Your Own Town was started eighteen years ago to raise awareness of the attraction and tourism industry in the area. Back for another year, Old Town and the greater Lansing area opens its doors for the people to explore what is right here in your own town.

For only $1 you can purchase a “Be A Tourist Passport” which grants you FREE admission to more than 60 area attractions, local businesses and special activities on Saturday, June 2, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Here are some of the great attractions to explore in Old Town:

Chalk of the Town:  During this event, Old Town Lansing will open their doors for Chalk of the Town to give guests a chance to experience true art in the streets. Beginning at 10 a.m., artists will create their colorful masterpieces on their assigned piece of sidewalk, using only chalk.

Turner Dodge House: Whether you are touring the house or participating in one of our numerous programs, the Turner-Dodge House is a must see! Located at 100 E. North St., Old Town Lansing

MICA gallery: The Puppet Theatre presents “Chalk-a-palooza!” musical puppet entertainment on Turner St. in Old Town. Performances at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Then stop in between shows at the Michigan Institute for Contemporary Art (MICA) for a puppet making workshop! Located at 1210 Turner St., Old Town Lansing

By the Riverside Gallery: Stop into this destination gallery and design your own mini-jewelry bag. Discover why Old Town is renowned for culture and creativity. Located at 1209 Turner St., Old Town Lansing

Great Lakes Artworks: Stop off at Great Lakes Artworks for some quick and crafty fun. Kids of all ages can make a little treasure to take home. Located at 306 E. Grand River Ave., Old Town Lansing

Art Council of Greater Lansing: The Arts Council of Greater Lansing welcomes you to visit our beautiful Old Town office with your family and to relax, seek shelter from the sun, and try your hand at some good ol’ fashion coloring! Located at 1208 Turner St., Old Town Lansing

Preuss Pets: Preuss Pets is celebrating 30 years in business this year! Come visit Lansing’s “Mini Zoo” Michigan’s largest family owned Pet Store.  Located at 1127 N. Cedar St., Old Town Lansing

Absolute Gallery: Make sure to stop into Absolute Gallery to create your own one-of-a-kind Bead-A-Bug kids art project. Located at 307 E. Grand River Ave., Old Town Lansing

Elderly Instruments: Musical instrument petting zoo, FREE kazoos, music and more! Great fun for all ages! Located at 1100 N. Washington Ave., Old Town Lansing

Durant Park: Children’s games of yesteryear, flower planting, ice cream and antique cars in historic Durant Park. The park was a gift to the City of Lansing from automaker William Durant. Located at 720 Seymour St., Old Town Lansing

Historical Society of Greater Lansing: Relive the excitement of shopping in Lansing during the mid-1900s at the new Historical Society of Greater Lansing mini-museum! Exhibit includes items from Knapp’s, Arbaugh’s and other memorable shopping destinations. Located at 831 N. Washington Ave., Old Town Lansing

Gallery 1212: Children will have the opportunity to create their very own puppets with the artistic staff of Gallery 1212. Located at 1212 Turner St., Old Town Lansing.
