Festival of the Moon and Festival of the Sun

The Old Town Commercial Association is hard at work putting together the final details for everyone’s favorite summer events: Festivals of the Moon and Sun. We hope you cleared your calendars on June 24 and 25 because there’s no better way to kick-start the summer.

Festival of the Moon

Join us for Festival of the Moon on Friday, June 24 from 6-11pm. Enjoy cold brews supplied by Bells Brewery and tasty local food whipped up by Grand Grillin and Great Lakes BBQ & Feed Co.

After an enjoyable experience last year Grand Grillin is coming back for another year of fun. Their tasty cuisine includes dishes ranging from hotdogs to BBQ chicken wraps topped with provolone cheese, grilled onions and green peppers. If you would like something a little different you can venture over to the Great Lakes BBQ and Feed Co. where you’ll find pulled pork sandwiches with a side of baked beans or cole slaw.

Festival of the Moon is known for its energetic atmosphere which wouldn’t be possible without entertainment from the best local and national rock bands. Taking over the stage this year are Locksley, Ben Keeler & the 500 Club and Finding Clyde.

Locksley is a four-member band comprised of brothers Jesse and Jordan Laz, Sam Bair and Kai Kennedy. They originated from Madison Wisconsin and has rapidly gained national exposure after their song The Whip was featured in the 2011 Chevy Cruz commercial. Their upbeat music and amped energy is sure to keep people on their feet during the festival. Visit www.locksley.com to get a sneak preview of what they’ll bring to the festival stage.

Ben Keeler, originally from Michigan, partnered with three Chicago musicians to form Ben Keeler & the 500 Club. Their latest single Water Water has an indie rock sound, blended with lush string, horn, and choir textures to a diverse collection of catchy melodies and arrangements. The pop rock/folk band is currently on tour sweeping the West coast off their feet on their current tour and they are sure to put on a lively performance on June 24. For more information about the band and their music visit www.benkeeler.com.

Festival of the Sun

After partying at Festival of the Moon, be sure to come back the following day for a relaxing experience at Festival of the Sun. This wine tasting event features the best of Mid-Michigan’s wine distributors. Local bands and solo artists ranging from blues to folk will entertain a crowd of more than 4,000 people.

This year’s new additions literally bring a new flavor to the festival. At the Mixology Demonstration table, you can treat your taste buds to some excitement with mixed drinks. Or you can purchase a $40 admission ticket that will also grant you access to the new Pairing Tent. This area offers attendees an authentic wine tasting experience by allowing them try three different wines paired with a sample size three course meal supplied by Lansing’s finest dining establishments.

If you’re a festival lover and want to maximize your experience, consider purchasing a VIP table. The VIP area is conveniently placed to give you and your party the best view of both stages and the package includes admission, food and drink tickets, complimentary food and wine pairings, table service and a private bathroom. It’s royal treatment at its best, so reserve your table today.

Festivals of the Moon and Sun are fundraisers to benefit the revitalization of Old Town and none of this would be possible without the help of our sponsors: Bell’s Brewery, Jackson National Life, Such Video, Farm Bureau Insurance, Harvest Creative Services, Rizzi Designs and CiesaDesign.

If you haven’t been able to attend the bi-weekly committee meetings, it isn’t too late to pitch in and help out. There are numerous volunteer opportunities at both festivals. For more information on volunteering visit the www.iloveoldtown.org or call the OTCA at 517.485.4283

With all this said there is only one pressing question: have you purchased your tickets yet? If not, buy your tickets online at www.festivalofthesun.com. When purchased in advance, tickets are $10 for Festival of the Moon and $17 for Festival of the Sun. Or you can enjoy the best of both worlds by purchasing a weekend pass for only $25. We’ll see you there!
