Seventeen years ago, the Greater Lansing Convention and Visitors Bureau created “Be a Tourist in Your Own Town” to increase community awareness of our attractions and the tourism industry’s impact on the area. So once again Old Town Lansing will open their doors for Old Town’s own Chalk of the Town! Roam the streets of Old Town and experience true art in the streets. Beginning at 10 a.m., artists will take to the streets creating masterpieces on their assigned piece of sidewalk, using only chalk. The creations will be completed by 2 p.m. when the judging will commence. Visitors to this event will be allowed to vote for the People’s Choice winner all day and winners will be announced at 3 p.m.
For those with the creative itch and a knack with chalk, you can easily get involved and participate. Simply visit the Chalk of the Town page at iloveoldtown.org and register for free! For everyone else who just wants to bask in the talent, you can purchase a “Be a Tourist passport” for only $1 at any of nine locations including the Arts council of Greater Lansing in Old Town. The passport gets free admission to more than 50 area attractions, local businesses, and special activities.
Chalk of the Town will take place June 4th, 2011 from 10am to 5pm in Old Town Lansing. For more information visit iloveoldtown.org or call the Old Town Commercial Association at 517-485-4283.
